ASSISTANT MANAGER

Position Summary

 

I opened dandelion wishes in October of 2019. I am very proud of the small shop I have created, very carefully curating a wide range of artists from across the US & Canada. To learn more about the shop and how it came to be, please read my herstory.

 

The function of the Assistant Manager role is to support the owner, Heidi (me!), in all aspects of the business. Since we are a very small business with a very small staff, you will be asked to do many things. Below are just a few key examples. There will be other things that come up.

 

  • Provide courteous, proactive, top notch customer service. Includes selling, answering questions, gift packaging, purchases, returns, and handling disputes.

  • Handling email, DM and phone sales as needed.

  • Respond to inquiries from potential shop artists.

  • Post to social media.

  • Keep the store clean (dust, mop, wipe, etc) and tidy.

  • Create eye catching displays 

  • Assist with inventory management - ordering, unpacking, pricing, inventory counts, etc.

  • Supervise, train, and help to motivate fellow employees.

  • Administrative tasks as needed.

  • Work at events (ie Pennington Day, Harvest Fair) *once we can safely have events again!*

 

Skills & Traits Needed

 

  • Experience in a retail environment or similar customer service position.

  • Successful experience working independently, without direct supervision.

  • Some experience managing others (ie employees, interns, volunteers)

  • Excellent people skills are essential. Positive interactions and human connection are the cornerstone of my business. You must be able to comfortably converse/interact with a wide range of personalities, and be able to instinctively read non-verbal cues.

  • Memory - there is a lot of merchandise in the store, and you will be expected to know the inventory well, to be able to effectively help customers. We have a computer to help you :)

  • Fast learner, and ability to follow detailed directions.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to accept and process criticism.

  • Ability to problem solve independently.

 

Position is 12-15 hours/week, with increased hours during holidays, and at other times owner is out of town. Must have regular AM & PM weekday and weekend availability. Competitive hourly pay based on experience. No medical insurance is available. Paid time off is available after 6 months, sick time is in accordance with New Jersey paid sick leave law.

 

COVID Notes

 

All customers and employees must wear a properly fitting mask in the shop. We do not allow vented masks, bandanas, gaiters, or other improperly fitting masks. If you are alone in the shop, you may remove your mask. Because it is such a small shop, we ask that all employees receive the COVID-19 Vaccine once they are eligible/able to. This will allow us to safely work side by side behind the counter, which is a very small space (distancing is not possible!).

 

Doors are kept open as much as is reasonably possible to allow for air circulation. An air purifier is in use at all times.
